The goal of this Australian Shepherd Rescue Page is to help find great homes to adopt rescued Aussies and Aussie mixes. You’ll find listings of available purebred Aussies and Aussie mixed breeds that have been rescued by Aussie Rescue organizations, other rescue organizations and shelters, and private individuals. These dogs are located throughout the Southeast United States.  Please contact the individuals listed in the dog’s biography for information on adoption.

Also found are local rescue events where Aussies will be in attendance.  Please visit the links listed for each event for more information.

Foster Homes Needed - URGENT

The down turn in the economy has had a huge impact on the Aussie community and the families responsible for caring for the dogs.  More and more Aussies are finding themselves in shelters across GA every day.  In addition to this, many breeding facilities are shutting down operations and needing a place for their dogs to go until adoption.

Aussies in GA are in desperate need of a safe place to call home until loving families are found to care for them permanently.  Aussie Rescue covers all medical costs, foster homes provide food and love during the dog’s stay in foster care.

GA Adoption Information

Our adoption fee is $200.00-$250.00 for adult dogs spayed/neutered, and $300.00 for unaltered puppies. $50-100 will be returned to the adopter when the spay/neuter surgery is performed for a puppy.

All of our foster dogs are up to date on vaccinations and spayed or neutered prior to adoption.  The dogs live in our homes as members of the family until adoption - we do not have a shelter.

Why is our fee so high (shouldn’t you just give the dogs away)?

GA Aussie Rescue celebrates relationships with several animal hospitals in the Metro Atlanta area who generously provide their services at a reduced cost.

Veterinary costs, even with the discounts we are afforded, often surpass the adoption fee collected on each dog.  Some of our dogs come into foster care requiring added procedures such as heartworm treatment, dental treatment, and professional grooming or boarding while a foster home is traveling.

*If an adoption fee is too expensive for an adopter, they might want to consider if owning a pet is really the best option for their family.

I had my heart set on a dog and he/she was adopted before I had the chance to meet them.

Aussie Rescue attempts to place the right dog with the right owner; however a great many of our dogs would fit into any type of home and are compatible in any situation. Often we have multiple adopters interested in one dog.

With 3-6 Aussies (during an average week) facing euthanasia in shelters while waiting for foster availability; often we cannot hold a dog to give each adopter who shows interest the opportunity to meet the dog. If an applicant meets a dog, and the foster home feels the family is a good fit, many times the dog will be adopted that day and will become unavailable for others to meet him/her.

Approved adopters always receive first preference. If you’re thinking of adopting, don’t wait until you see a dog on the website that interests you…go ahead and complete an application so you’ll be ready to go when the dog of your dreams appears.
